One of the stops on your Flipper Finders adventure will be the Morris Island Lighthouse. This historic structure, dating back to 1876, is not only a stunning sight but also serves as a symbol of resilience against the test of time. In Outer Banks lore, the lighthouse is often associated with mystery and treasure, making it a fitting backdrop for your adventure. As you pass near the lighthouse, you’ll learn about its history, including its role in guiding sailors safely through the treacherous waters, as well as, its connection to the show. It’s the lighthouse in the show intro and is a main filming location. (Folly Boat Only)
The highlight of the tour is John B’s house, a place where many pivotal moments of the series unfold. Situated along the stunning coastline, this picturesque location offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of the Pogues. Imagine exploring the area, recalling iconic scenes, and feeling the thrill of being part of the adventure. Your guides will share behind-the-scenes stories and trivia, deepening your connection to the show and its characters.
We have tried to keep this location a secret. The “Maybank” property is hidden in plane site and we are gonna go find it. Due to location and tides the approach is not always accessible but we will try and get as close as possible.
The tour wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Boneyard Beach, a hauntingly beautiful stretch of shoreline known for its striking driftwood trees and soft white sand. This location serves as a reminder of the natural beauty that surrounds the Outer Banks. As you paddle along the coast, take a moment to soak in the serene atmosphere and witness the unique landscapes that make this area so special. The Boneyard Beach is a perfect spot for taking photos, so have your cameras ready! (Folly Boat Only)
Nature is a significant part of the Pogue lifestyle, and this tour emphasizes the connection to the environment. As you navigate the waters, you’ll find yourself surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Lowcountry. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife, including a variety of birds, sea turtles, and, of course, playful dolphins. The thrill of seeing dolphins swimming alongside the tour boat is an unforgettable experience that captures the magic of being in nature.
Your guides will share insights into the local ecosystem, including the importance of the marshlands and coastal waters. Understanding the delicate balance of this environment enhances the experience and connects you more deeply to the land and its history.
The OBX-themed tour also pays homage to the hardworking individuals in the fishing, shrimping, and crabbing industries. As you explore through the estuary, your captain will discuss the significance of these occupations in the local culture. Just like the Pogues, who often found themselves immersed in the world of treasure hunting, fishing and crabbing are integral to the lives of those in the area.
You’ll hear stories of local fishermen, their daily struggles, and the traditions passed down through generations. This connection to the water is not only a nod to the show, but it also highlights the importance of preserving the natural resources that sustain these communities.
As you cruise along, your Captain will weave in stories about the various characters from Outer Banks, including Kiara, Pope, and Rafe. Each character adds depth to the narrative, and their adventures and drama often intersect with the breathtaking landscapes you’ll be exploring. Learning about their motivations and experiences allows you to appreciate the story on a deeper level.
